Perhaps I Shouldn't Rattle the Cage, But...

... I haven't received any spam messages here in quite some time. Other bloggers have complained, recently, about the volume increasing. I guess my readership (averaging some 350 hits/day) isn't high enough to attract spammers' attention.

Darn the bad luck, eh?

The only oddity I noticed is that a post about a friend's H&R "The American" revolver, written in October '10, still gets 30 or 40 hits a day. Curious, that. A fluff piece on local news items from February called "Alaska Shorts" still gets 60 or 70 hits daily, and the video of the moose fight is getting hundreds of hits every day.

That's the only one I understand, as it's not something the average persons sees.  :)

I've never been able to successfully predict my numbers, spam, views, comments or otherwise.
Spam comes out of nowhere - or not.
I suffer long and hard on some post - no comments.
It IS a mystery!

I hear you, gfa. The posts into which I pour heart & soul tend to get the fewest comments ... well, MOST of the time.

Hmmm, do you have your comments set to turn off on posts thirty days old? I noticed one post might get a lot of spam and once it hits 30 days, it turns off because no comments are allowed anymore. Just a thought. I think spammers target keywords or once they get one spam by you, they go crazy with spamming every post. Then I go back and find that one comment that was fake. At least that's my experience.

NavyOne, I haven't seen an option to do what you suggest. I did turn on moderation for anything more than 3 days old, but that would still put spam comments in the "moderate" folder.

Ah, I use Wordpress and may have a different experience than you. As for your heartfelt posts, I see them! I may not comment, but I like them and respect you putting yourself out there.

Thank you, sir.

I think Navy 1 is right... And yeah, posts and responses are NOT always what we hope/think they will be!

NFO ... yep, exactly.
