This Is SO Alaskan

from www.adn.com

For Miss D and Jenny (and anyone else who loves Alaska and/or floatplanes), here's a floatplane over Lake Hood.

When we were there in 2010 our tour bus circled Lake Hood, "the busiest floatplane airport in the world." We were there for over an hour and didn't see one plane land or take off.

All was not lost, however. Across the street a HUGE bull moose was noshing on some willows and posing for pictures. Then he slowly and silently faded away into the brush like the old ballplayers in Field of Dreams.

(Oh, we saw plenty of floatplane activity elsewhere both in Alaska and Canada in the Yukon and British Columbia.)

joated, the only times I've seen Lake Hood quiet are during high winds or bad weather. Not quite sure why it was quiet when you were there. There's usually a plane landing or leaving every few minutes.

Thanks, Paul. You've gone and made me homesick - but not homesick enough to miss the temperature there this morning!

Wing, I do understand. It's 14 here this morning, and might get above freezing today ... for an hour or two. Glad you liked the picture. :)

Yeah, pretty much what Miss D said. :)

Jenny, I don't blame you for not missing the temps. But everything else? Hmm.
