Monday

It's cold - 7 degrees at my house - and in the negative teens to the north. With a forecast temp reaching into the low 20s today, that pretty well describes the weather-guess for the rest of the week.
Just insert snow flurries on today & Friday, and you've got the whole picture.

Early voting continues here, with lines just as long as everywhere else. This is what happens when the Silent Majority gets riled.

The new Anchorage school superintendent has ordered principals to visit each classroom, and to get to know the teachers. It's nigh unbelievable (to me) that this had to be ordered; on the other hand, something has to account for a nearly 50% dropout rate in area high schools.

The Aleutian Island village of Akutan has a new $75.5 million airport -- on an island six miles across the water. Passengers will take a $100 hovercraft ride over the Bering Sea to catch their planes. But the new airport has no planes, or at least no scheduled air service. And Akutan finds itself without regular mail. Your tax dollars at work, folks.

Please vote tomorrow: it's important.  Thanks for stopping by.

Maybe they need a bridge.

NFO ... yep.

WSF, it's six miles, which - in THOSE waters - is completely impractical. Besides, we tried to get a bridge for the Sitka airport (which is on an island, too) and that got turned into a political joke. "Never mind the necessity, let's just ridicule it!"
