So ... Where Were We?

Oh, right - talking about the weather, and such.

The national weather service predicted we'd have steady snow, changing to a wintry mix and then up to 1/10" of ice.  We got a dusting of snow this a.m., but I haven't seen anything else.

However, the cold weather we've been experiencing, coupled with a decided lack of snow, has claimed its first victim: this morning at 4:30, a 12" water main burst, just a few blocks north of where I work. It took the city crew 3 1/2 hours to shut the water off (!) and they expected "8 to 10 hours to make repairs" when they started digging at 9:30.

In the meantime, roughly one city block of the adjoining street was under water. The icing ought to be spectacular.

I see where Gen. Petraeus resigned as head of the CIA, citing an extra-marital affair. Tragic way to throw away one's career, that ... but please forgive that my first thought was, "That's one way to get out of testifying about the Benghazi cover-up."

BP has been ordered to pay the State of Alaska $255 million in damaged, as repayment for lost revenue due to a couple of leaks which closed the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 2006.

The local news is full of stories about the ongoing realignment(s) in Juneau, as the State senate comes under Republican control. I'll let you know if anything comes of it, good or bad.

And then there's this:  Anchorage police arrested a man Tuesday for the theft of more than $66,000 in surveying equipment from his former employer, in a case which broke when an honest buyer purchased the stolen goods at a storage auction similar to those seen on the TV series “Storage Wars.”

Someone call Diogenes: we've found an honest man!

Let's see, Petraeus resigns AFTER the election but BEFORE the hearings. Not suspicious, not suspicious at all.

PH, exactly. Watch for other, similar departures in the near term.

Bout damn time... 6 years??? Hope they get interest too!

I smell something fishy with the Petraeus deal. Should be interesting to find out more.

NFO, I concur.

Senior, it stinks like old fish.

Oh, and btw - if it was OK for a president then it is most certainly OK for his underlings.

PH, you're right - in the eyes of DC, it seems adultery is rather run-of-the-mill. Ho-hum, and all that.

And it may be that he's an otherwise-honorable man who made a horrible error, and is doing the honorable thing. I wonder if we'll ever know.
