Early in the A.M.

We awoke at 0300 ... no idea why, but I'm up, so let's see what's going on around town.

The annual Fur Rondy starts today, and the World Championship Sled Dog Races begin at noon. There's been about an inch three inches of fresh snow overnight, with another 1" to 3" expected today. That's a good thing for the dogs, although with a forecast high of 29, it's also a good thing that the races are short-distance sprints of only a few miles. They can overheat easily in temps this warm.

There's a partial listing of events here; the complete listing of activities (there are a lot of them) is here.

That 727 I wrote about is scheduled to land at Merrill Field next Tuesday. Merrill is a city-owned light-aircraft field, and FedEx has donated the 727 to UAA's aircraft technology department.

Yesterday was Day 5 of the Iron Dog snowmachine race. It was also the restart for the final leg of the journey. Coverage can be found here.

There's not much else of more-than-local-interest in the news. Y'all have a wonderful Friday, and thank you for stopping by.

I hate it when I wake up that early if for no other reason it makes for a really and truly long day.

Hopefully you'll sleep more soundly and longer tonight.

Wow Rev. I too had a hard time sleeping last night. It does make for a long day.

Heck, I didn't fall asleep until 0300...it's already nap time for me.

I fall with the majority - except back to sleep!
Maybe it's global warming?

:-)

Matt, me too. I feel "done" by mid-morning. Thanks for the thought, but I have to be up early tomorrow for a different reason.

Keads, sorry to hear it. A good night's sleep makes a world of difference.

Stephen, I hear you. I'm not ready for a nap - yet - but I will be by lunch time. :)

gfa, the "experts" say global warming causes everything, so who knows?

So this Rondy thing has a few interesting activities. The Snowshoe softball could be entertaining although snowshoe volley ball would prolly be a bit more entertaining.

The outhouse races sounds as if it may have potential.

You need a bikini snowball fight as well I think.

Preppy, I'm sure it's just a matter of time. They already have a fur bikini contest.
