Iron Dog: 2012 Winners Victorious Again

Meet your new Iron Dog snowmachine race champions, the same as the old ones -- Marc McKenna and Dusty VanMeter of Team 17, who repeated their 2012 victory during a sunny finish in Fairbanks at 12:38 p.m. Saturday, having once again conquered more than 2,000 miles of trail.

Congrats to them, and more power to them!!! 2k miles is a LONG way in warm, sunny temps; much less in THOSE conditions...

A long way, and at speeds reaching 100 mph. Those are some tough guys!

"Iron Man" is the right name for this one!

One week to the Iditarod! (Slower and shorter, but you've got to care and feed all those dogs along the way.)

joated, the Iditarod's gonna be interesting this year: most of the perennial favorites have been having a rough season.

Congratulations to them! That's quite an achievement!

Brigid, just watching a racer wrestling a 600-pound machine out of a frozen creek & back onto the trail makes my back hurt, in sympathy. Yet these iron men do it all the time.
