JUNEAU, Alaska—Federal marine mammal responders have removed much of the gillnet that was tangled on a whale in the waters near Petersburg last month, and they have ended their response.
NOAA says in a release that the tail and pectoral fins were freed of the gear Thursday near Juneau, but some line behind the blowhole remains.
Authorities said the full-grown, adult humpback whale is in robust condition and was last seen vigorously swimming.
