The Chill is On

It was 24° this morning, and there was frost on things which sat out all night. Fortunately, that doesn't include me.

Speaking of last night, I was awakened shortly after 0300 by the beeping from a carbon monoxide detector at the end of the hall. Unexplained life mystery #2,147: why do smoke &/or CO detector batteries always die in the middle of the flippin' night?

But there's no precipitation in the local forecast until the 16th, which means it's irrelevant. That will change dozens of times before the middle of the month gets here. But "rain" and "low of 32" don't exactly thrill us.

Start talking about the white stuff, Mr. Weatherman. We Alaskans are dreadfully tired of wet, icy winters, and would love a return to heavy snow.

And yes, I know I should be careful what I ask for. :)

Frost warnings here tonight. Turned the heat on for the first time this fall, when the wife teeth were chattering. I was fine, she was turning blue and had ice cold hands. ;)

Understood. My wife & younger daughter get chilled easily. Older daughter & I are usually fine.

Battery volts drop when the temperature drops. Your house gets cooler at night, probably by design, hence "beep-beep" at 3am.

That's a quite plausible explanation. Darn you, you've destroyed the mystique! :) Srsly, thank you.
