... well, you know.
The story has a happy ending. When we notified DMV that the old car had been sold, we provided the date of sale and the buyer's name. And they confirmed today that the sale is part of the record. What we apparently didn't do was to include his mailing address. (I call "bogus!" on that, because I remember writing it down. But never mind.)
Anyway, thanks to a friend who knows how to do practically anything, we pulled up the guy's mailing addresses - he has a lot of them - and will provide both the address he used 4 years ago, and his current address, to the DMV tomorrow.
That will complete the record, and end the issue.
What it doesn't end is this towing company's attempt to bluff us (read bully us) into paying a debt which they already knew wasn't ours. They apparently hope that WE don't know it.
Guess again. (Thank you, Laura and Griz!)
Letters are also on the way to the Consumer Protection Unit of the Attorney General’s Office, the Anchorage Municipal Assembly, and - for whatever it's worth - the Better Business Bureau.
Yippie yi oh ki-yay!
